A city is no greater than its worst conditions and the plight of its children and youth. That city can never truly be a great city or reach its full potential until the city leaders address the problems that plague its most under-served neighborhoods. “Crises in Urban America” addresses some of the most disturbing problems in our urban neighborhoods in America. Lurone Jennings, Sr. uses his own experiences and hometown urban setting of Chattanooga, Tennessee to talk about the many challenges facing urban families—family abandonment, illiteracy, poor education, drug and alcohol abuse, violence, crime, poverty, high unemployment and high prison population. The observations are startling and Jennings challenges families, churches, businesses, educators, and government leaders to look for real and practical ways to partner together in a strategic city-wide effort to empower struggling and enslaved families that make up our urban community. Jennings has a passion for urban transformation and believes in empowerment through a Biblical perspective that includes financial stewardship and literacy. Lurone Jennings, Sr. is the Executive Director of the Bethlehem Center, and founder of the Bethlehem Community Development Credit Union. He and his wife, Glinda, have three children and three grandchildren. Jennings still works in the neighborhood where he grew up, and travels the country sharing the message of hope through Jesus Christ.
