As a former Naval Officer, I am mindful that America’s most valuable resource is our sons and daughters. Over the last 30 years, I have provided pastoral leadership and counsel for churches and nonprofits extensively, focusing on transforming broken and under-performing teams, departments and organizations. Out of all I’ve been blessed to accomplish and achieve for the better good, none of it would have been possible without the quality education I received from Elizabeth City State University- an Historical Black College / University.
My story is the story of millions of HBCU graduates that have become doctors, lawyers, engineers, educators, military officers, C-level executives, law enforcement professionals, bankers, professional athletes, Hollywood celebrities, entrepreneurs and others. HBCUs will play a vital role in ensuring our Nation reaches the goal of producing ten million new college graduates by 2020. America’s HBCUs have produced many of our nation’s leaders across all professions, and continue to be an engine of economic growth in the surrounding communities and regions they serve.
